This popular wine is a relatively new addition to the Gibson range of wines and started life as a Shiraz Grenache. It is now a straight Grenache.
The wine is a special project of the second generation at Gibson's, Adam, who takes on “Duke” himself as a nickname. In the noble sense, Dukes are ranked below Emperors and Kings. As the son of Rob, Adam argues that his moniker comes from his earlier days playing local football rather than his rank at the winery. He was well known for his fiery competitiveness and often being “Dukes Up” on the field.
This wine is a story of elegance versus substance in red wine styles. Violets, raspberry and red cherry fruit characters on the nose are complemented with blue fruit and persimmon notes. The palate is medium-light bodied and soft, well-structured with soft fleshy red berry flavours, balanced with soft, gentle tannins.
