Dewey Station Wines "Off The Beaten Track" Graciano

Graciano is a Spanish red wine grape that is grown primarily in Rioja and usually has a low yield. The wine is typically deep red in colour with strong aromas. In Australia, Graciano is usually blended with Tempranillo.

Graciano is very uncommon in Australia. The grape skins are very strong in tannins and phenolics requiring special care and not suited to bulk production of wine.

This Barossa Graciano has a higher juice yield than typical Graciano but the same hand made care is required. The wine was only fermented for 4.5 days and pressed as soon as the tannins started coming through to retain the aromatics but without having to keep on oak for too long to soften the tannins. It was put in new French Oak puncheon (500 litres) barrels for 12-weeks.

An aromatic delight with bright florals and violets leaping from the glass. Followed by strawberry, blackcurrant jelly crystals, orange peel and sweet earth aromas.
