Gibson Wines "The Dirtman" Shiraz

Gibson Wines is one of our favourite wineries and we always recommend them to friends touring the Barossa. "The Dirtman" Shiraz is one of our favourite wines and is an absolutely outstanding wine for its price point.

During his years studying at Roseworthy College, and later as head of the first viticultural department of Penfolds, Rob Gibson's passion for wine growing and geology led him to be known as ‘The Dirtman’ hence putting his nickname to their signature wine.

The Dirtman Shiraz is a blend of both Eden Valley and Barossa floor fruit. The two regions are distinctly different in climate and dirt. Bringing them together allows us to craft a wine that celebrates classic Barossa Shiraz generosity and plushness, with a backbone of finesse for aging.

Matured for 18-months in new and matured American and French oak, lifted aromas of stone fruit and blackcurrant prevail, overlaid with nuances of smoky oak and sweet spices.

Deep purple-red. On the nose lifted plum, vanilla and spice characters with underlying complex notes of boot leather and barrel. The palate has a good body with rich black fruits, savoury herb, pepper and spicy oak notes. It is well balanced with natural acidity and barrel flavours. The finish is warm and dry, leaving spicy, cherry pip flavours lingering. It shows all the hallmarks of world-class Shiraz treated with good oak maturation to produce a great wine with good ageing potential.
