Fiano is an Italian white wine grape variety that is grown in Campania and Sicily and is believed to have been used in one of the ancient Roman wines. The grape variety is known for its low yield and for its strong flavours and intense aromas.
Not common outside Southern Italy, the variety has been introduced to Australia and Argentina. The wine is most closely compared to Pinot Grigio.
The Gibson wines Discovery Road Fiano has intense aromas of “fresh pear skin, honeydew and baked apple that are complemented by nuances of frangipani and almond meal”. The palate displays a soft and generous mouthfeel with fresh flavours of pear, melon and apple and finishing with soft and balanced acidity. It will accompany summer cuisine beautifully. It will also entertain on its own “over a conversation, on the deck”. One of my favourite Australian whites.
