Mataro, also known as Mourvedre and Monastrell is a full-bodied and rustic wine. It is better-known for its blending with Grenache and Shiraz to produce the Rhone-style GSM blends, also popular in the Barossa Valley.
The fruit for this Mataro is sourced from a vineyard that is almost 150 years old. Given the phylloxera devastation to the European vineyards in the 19th century, this could be amongst the oldest Mataro vineyards in the world.
The fruit is picked at a couple of different times to get a range of ripeness and acidity levels.
This great example of one of Tim's favourite grape varieties has a dark, ruby-red colour with deep and complex black fruit, leather and earthy flavours.
A superb example of a straight Mataro that I am sure you will enjoy.
