About Hayes Family Wines
Hayes Family Wines was established in the Barossa Valley in 2014, driven by a desire to work closely with the land and create authentic, classically styled wines that reflect their vineyard origins.
The family-owned producer works with the Barossa’s signature varieties, including Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro and Semillon. Every wine is shaped by a commitment to quality, careful farming and respectful handling of the fruit, with no shortcuts and no compromise.
Historic Barossa Vineyards
Hayes Family Wines is based at Stone Well in the heart of the Barossa Valley, where the estate vineyard, winery and farm-style cellar door are located. The family also works with historic vineyard sites across Stone Well, Ebenezer, Koonunga and other carefully selected regions.
Some of the vineyards date back to the 1860s and have supplied fruit for prominent Barossa wines over several generations. Much of the vineyard work is completed by hand, including pruning and harvesting, allowing every block to be managed with close attention and care.
Brett Hayes and Andrew Seppelt
Owner Brett Hayes manages the estate vineyard and winery infrastructure and remains involved in vineyard work, cellar operations, sales and marketing. Since the first vintage in 2014, he has helped guide the growth of Hayes Family Wines as a small-scale, quality-focused Barossa producer.
Chief winemaker Andrew Seppelt has been making internationally recognised wines since 1995. His experience includes thirty vintages and more than two decades in senior winemaking roles, including influential positions with established Barossa producers.
Andrew joined Brett from the beginning of the Hayes Family Wines project, helping develop a portfolio of small-batch wines shaped by vineyard site, grape variety and vintage.
Certified Organic and Sustainable
Hayes Family Wines believes that healthy soils, carefully managed vines and responsible farming are essential to producing exceptional wine. The Stone Well Estate Vineyard and Primrose Vineyard at Ebenezer are certified organic and certified sustainable.
The vineyards are managed through a combination of traditional knowledge, hands-on farming and modern sustainable practices. This approach protects the long-term health of the land while allowing the fruit to retain the character of each individual site.
Low-Intervention Winemaking
In the winery, the philosophy is simple: let the vineyards and grapes do the talking. Red wines receive no added tannins, no fining and no filtration, while sulphur additions are kept to a minimum in accordance with organic protocols.
Traditional and contemporary techniques are used according to the vineyard block and desired wine style. These may include extended skin contact, indigenous or selected yeasts, ceramic egg fermenters and large-format oak for fermentation and maturation.
The finished wines are classically styled and focused on fruit purity, balance and ageability, capturing the character of their vineyards while retaining the individuality of each vintage.
