About Curator Wine Co
Curator Wine CO is a small, independent Barossa producer dedicated to creating expressive, age-worthy wines from exceptional old vineyards. Based in Marananga on the western side of the Barossa Valley, the estate sits among some of the region’s most celebrated vineyard sites, surrounded by rolling hills and soils rich in ironstone and quartzite.
Winemaker Tom White
Curator Wine CO represents winemaker Tom White’s lifelong pursuit of exceptional Barossa wine. His interest began while growing up around his family’s cool-climate vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, where he developed an early appreciation for the connection between vineyard, season and the finished wine. That curiosity became a commitment to producing generous yet balanced Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon from remarkable old Barossa vines.
Tom and his wife Bridget eventually settled in Marananga, where they live and farm from an original 1890s stone settler’s cottage. Each vineyard is selected for its vine age, soil, elevation, aspect and ability to express a distinctive sense of place, rather than being shaped to fit a uniform house style.
Traditional, Hands-On Winemaking
Curator believes that the greatest wines are grown rather than manufactured. Fruit is hand-picked, naturally fermented in traditional open fermenters, gently hand-plunged and basket-pressed. The wines are then matured patiently before the final blends are carefully assembled and bottled without fining or filtration, preserving their natural texture, complexity and individuality.
This restrained approach allows each vineyard and vintage to retain its own personality. The result is a collection of small-batch wines that are powerful yet balanced, expressive of their origins and made with the structure to develop gracefully over time.
Sustainability in the Vineyard and Winery
Sustainability is built into the way Curator farms and makes wine. The vineyards are managed with minimal cultivation and without the routine use of herbicides or pesticides, encouraging healthier soils and greater biodiversity. Rainwater collected from the estate’s buildings supplies the winery, while grape marc from vintage is composted and returned beneath the vines as mulch, improving soil health and water retention while completing the natural cycle from vineyard to wine and back again.
